LOUD! FAST! PHILLY! Portland Screening
One Night Only! Wednesday July 17th at 7:30pm. Event creator and presenter Joseph A. Gervasi in attendance.
LOUD! FAST PHILLY! explores Philadelphia, PA’s hardcore punk underground with a clear-eyed view that eschews golden-hued nostalgia and instead brings into sharp focus (and blurry VHS) the true ugly beauty of the scene. Featuring rare footage of Philly bands playing basements, churches, bars, crappy clubs, squats, and warehouses throughout the city, the program captures what it was like living in a moment but without the pervasive reek of b.o. LOUD! FAST PHILY! has selected footage dating from the early 1980s to the now, much of which has never been seen and has been assembled, digitized, and edited for this program. This is not a documentary; rather, it’s a presentation of the footage by its creator, Joseph A. Gervasi, who will discuss Philly’s HC punk scene and some of its most thrilling and beloved bands.
LOUD! FAST! PHILLY! sold out both presentations at the 2013 Cinedelphia Film Festival in Philadelphia.
Nearly forty years on, punk continues to inspire with its DIY ethos and vibrant, creative aggression. This is not a post-mortem. This is a celebration.
Featuring these bands:
Policy of 3
Flag of Democracy (F.O.D.)
Atom and His Package
Kill the Man Who Questions
The Dead Milkmen
